140th Anniversary Centers for 140 Years of Public Education in Lebanon, IL April 16, 2013
1. One Room School House – Joy Hamann set up on the stage with show and tell
2. Julie Parker (reading a book) & Sylvia Fertig & Sy Korte Q/A on the one room school house they attended as children
3. Will Shannon, St. Clair County Historical Society (STCCHS), Belleville, IL discussing FOOD items and storage Exhibit the items from late 1800’s a guessing/matching game with the items, using the students' answers as a springboard to explain about cooking and food preparation in the past.
4. Will Shannon, STCCHS, TRANSPORTATION (Show transportation artifacts (train schedules, railroad memorabilia, transit tokens) from late 1800’s
5. Toys/Games -- RoxAnn Raisner from the 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House will bring games and toys for the students to use.
6. Quilting local quilters Bonnie Hardy/Donna Berberich Tangrams & Quilts on display They will have a quilt in a frame for the students to quilt.
7. Clothing Station – Stephenson House Students will learn about clothing from the mid to late 1800’s. They will try on fashions.
8. Virginia Reel Dance – students will learn the dance steps
9. Sun Dial – Stephenson House students will make sun dials
10. Butter making (Billye Green) crackers will be provided and students will churn butter.
11. Bucket Station with Yoke – Stephenson House Laundry in the late 1800’s
12. Thaumatrope – Stephenson House – students will make their own thaumatrope
13. Lunch from the cafeteria -- an old time lunch will be provided: sandwich, oatmeal cookie, apple in a brown bag)
14. Kettle corn – provided by Charlie Meier (Illinois State Representative)
April 16, 2013 will be our 140th Celebration
We will have a one room school house and many guest speakers. Our students will rotate through the stations during the morning. In the evening from 6-8 pm we will hold our Family Reading Night activities.
January 29 will be our next meeting @ 3:25 in the GS Computer Lab.
